Rwanda Medical Clinic

We have set out to raise $350,000 to build a health facility in Southern Rwanda. The goal of this project is to improve healthcare for all community members in Uwinkingi Sector, Nyamagabe ADP. For years the people of Uwinkingi sector have walked at least 11 km to the nearest health center and 20 km to the nearest hospital. There is only one main road in Nyamagabe district that runs from Butare-Gikongoro up to Cyanguga. The roads are bad and often flooded during the rainy season making transportation difficult. The health profile of this area is particularly appalling according to the DHS 2005.

Diseases like malnutrition, malaria and HIV are mainly responsible for this. Some of the results of poor accessibility to healthcare are increased mortality from infant killer dis eases, poor attendance of ANC by pregnant mothers and delay in health seeking leading to a greater number of complicated cases of treatable diseases in the community.

Target population: The projected population to be served by the health centre is 22,717.

Sustainability: Golf Fore Africa will construct the facility with World Vision. The ministry of Health and the Nyamagabe district authority will take it over immediately for staffing, equipping and ongoing supplies and other cost.
