Golf Fore Africa

Accomplishments

Accomplishments - Since starting Golf Fore Africa in early 2007 the organization has been able to raise donations of approximately $490,000 from a wide range of sources. This has included the LPGA and over 50 LPGA players, the LPGA Owners Association, the Senior Tour players, Rolex, McDonald's, Ping, Golf Digest, Pro-Quip, and additional support from many individuals through golf clinic participation and donations. LPGA Players have also provided support through participation in the clinics and other golf events. (To read more about these event and view picture go to the event heading and look under past events).

The funds raised to date have been used to complete the Community Project in Mudasomwa, to start the building of a medical clinic in Rwanda and to support funding of the housing project in Lesotho. Last fall Founder and CEO Betsy King, along with LPGA professionals Juli Inkster, Reiley Rankin, and Katherine Hull and teaching professionals Wendy Posillico and Renee Powell returned to Rwanda to see first hand the impact of the contributions to the community of Mudasomwa. Accomplishments from funding this project in 2007 and 2008 have included:

  • Golf Fore Africa working with World Vision provided health insurance for 186 vulnerable children, people living with HIV or AIDS. and community members
  • Eighty two children received help with school fees, supplies or uniforms
  • Trained 25 vulnerable children in vocational skills and provide startup materials
  • Trained 60 vulnerable women to manage a small business
  • Provided 400 hens and 500 rabbits to 130 people living with AIDS, and vulnerable children
  • Provide seeds, fertilizer, and agricultural tools to 130 members of associations of people living with AIDS, and vulnerable children
  • 50+ children have been sponsored in the Mudasomwa community by LPGA players and fans

Future plans are to continue hosting Golf Fore Africa golf clinics and golf Pro-ams to raise funds for specific projects to benefit AIDS orphans and vunerable children. Also, we plan to grow a strong base of corporate sponsors, expand the revenue generated by golf related fund raising activities and increase the number and amount of individual donations by establishing a "Friends of Golf Fore Africa" giving program.
